History & Who We Are
The Gear Grinders started out in 1951 as a group of guys from San Antonio, Texas that were basically just interested in cars. To date, I believe that we are the longest continually operating car club in the great state of Texas, and the second oldest club in the United States.
We are a "Not For Profit" club. A good portion of our treasury is donated back annually to the communities in which we live in one form or another. You can view our charitable works on our "Charitable Work" link.
We have members living in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Cedar Creek, Kingsland, Spring Branch, Tomball, Bulverde, Boerne, Schertz, Seguin, Helotes, Adkins, Canyon Lake, Fair Oaks Ranch, Converse and even as far away as Houston. We currently have a total of 70 members, 50 of which are active, and 23 that are "Life Members".
Our members run the gamut with regard to age. We have members that are still teenagers and other members that can still remember being a teenager.
Our cars also span a wide variety, from Rat Rods to Classic Hot Rods to Race Cars and a little bit of everything in between. Please visit our "Members Cars" link.
We meet once a month, on the third Wednesday of every month. The location of our meetings vary but can be found on the "Monthly Meeting Info" link. Vistors are always welcome at our meetings.
Our club has proudly hosted the AutoRama Car Show since 2003. The show is held in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, TX. the first part of every year. For more info please check out one of the links entitled 2008 AutoRama, 2007 AutoRama Pics or just AutoRama.
